VITALIDAD

Some of my favorite images that reminded me that Frida was very playful were of her posing with different kinds of animals and laying on her bed painting her body casts. The casts remain in her home and museum: La Casa Azul. In this captured moment, I used her body cast painting and imagined her pretending to be in fact pregnant while enjoying the tenderness around her in the kittens and the softness of the flowers. The quote reads: -"I am not sick. I am completely broken. But as long as I can paint, I will feel happy".

Vitalidad- means the power of enduring. The capacity to live.

Style choice: The photo reference I used for this painting was a naked Frida laying down black and white with  felines. I decided I wanted it to be very monochromatic when I saw her cast as to make the art of the cast pop out. The color palette was based off of a subtle sea image which makes it feel very relaxing.
