Judging is not what I meant to do when I read about Frida. However, I imagined her with black wings because just like all of us; she was not perfect, and she did some dark things in her life. Frida was a communist who idolized Stalin. She had an abortion which I know is a controversial subject... and she often was unfaithful to Diego although he was unfaithful back. They divorced because he became involved with her sister and claimed to love her more. The couple got back together after a year apart. Frida loved Diego so much. He was the center of her world it seemed in her journal. Since I was little though, my impression of Frida was that she loved HERSELF the most because she always painted herself. Of course, later I learned that she did this because she was often stuck in bed and she painted the subject that she knew the most. This thought resounded in me for the rest of my life. It made me realize that I had to learn to love myself and live with myself more than anyone because I was going to be the person that I'd be stuck with forever. Thus, Frida became my muse. One of a few role models that shape who I am today. She is my Dark Angel. There are many more things that Frida did courageously that made me paint her standing strong and proud. You will read about those in other paintings.

This painting was completed stroke by stroke, line by line and it's not the most accurate, but it certainly was my most intricate piece of the collection.
