This painting is the spark to the creation of this show. She was a commission for two dear friends who love Frida probably even more than I do! The background was inspired by their bedroom. They sent me a picture of a beautiful black and white bedroom with gorgeous velvet-like purple curtains and touches of gold accents throughout the walls and covers. One of the decorations above the bed, was the cycle of the moon in gold. I studied their bedroom photo for a while and let my imagination go wild with the background. When I took it to them, I insisted that I be allowed to hang it in their bedroom because I wasn't convinced I liked the painting, but it worked amazingly! The circles or waves of gold matched the moon cycle and the texture of the purple and pink background went really well against the velvet materials. This painting led my friends to believe; well, no; they both KNEW years ago, that I could pull off a collection of Frida works and they trusted me more than I did.

I debated if to call this piece "The Spark" but "Untitled" makes it sound more like a mystery and I like that with the act that Frida is just undressing.
