Trying to represent Frida's legacy, would be incomplete without Diego. Diego Rivera made a huge impact in Frida's story and in her art. Him being a popular artist in those times, pushed Frida to paint about her life and gave her very insightful feedback. Frida loved Diego deeply; her journal speaks about the profound feelings that she had for him constantly. In the point of view of the readers, I think that we can say they had a toxic relationship because they were unfaithful to each other so much, but from listening to podcasts about her life; I understood that Diego had a charming personality towards women. He knew how to make them feel valued and beautiful, when back then, women were treated as property or inferior to men. We will never know how Diego charmed Frida so deeply... but, if he was anything like my husband, I can understand why she couldn't let him go. My husband will bring me new art tools for me to try and he comes home with ideas to share. He awakens in me a yearn to create and to be authentic and makes me feel really satisfied when I've done a great job. He can softly criticize my work where it yields in a direction that comes out even better after I change it. William was my biggest supporter for this show as he helped me pick my references from the very start, trusting more than I, that I could pull them off. He used his skills in framing that he learned at his job to frame my #1 prints and carefully selected the best way to represent each single piece..... Ok, this story was about Diego. Sorry, Frida querida! I made this piece for you Frida; to honor your love for Diego.

Style choice: I chose to focus mostly on Frida herself and leave Diego as a silhouette in a metallic blue that I thought would compliment the golds and bronze tones I already owned. This piece was made with love songs playing in the background and the flow that came into the strokes surrounding the couple are very playful and unplanned. The phrase I chose is an odd one but shows the depth of which Frida spoke of Diego. It literally says -"My body fills up with you for days and days. The gap between your armpits is my refuge. My fingertips touch your blood"- which may sound better in Spanish...
